Medium lift is defined as lifting not more than 2.5 metres.
* excluding container handling trucks.
The addition of some attachments may change the classification of a truck e.g a swiveling/reach attachment
Added to the prefix ‘T’ should be the actual truck group, (e.g TB1 – Transportable counterbalance – up to 5 tonne. TC1 – Transportable Sideloader up to 3 tonne)
LORRY LOADER TRAINING CATEGORIES – ALLMI
Distinction is made between different types of attachment, capacity of the loader, remote controlled loaders and various specialist applications (e.g barge mounted, static mount etc). These are categorised due to the individual skill requirements needed to operate these types of loader cranes safety and efficiently.
If an operator is trained and certificated in the use of only a winch attachment (category 2), they should not be permitted to use other types of attachment until conversion training has been undertaken. A certificated operator who is trained on the use of lorry loaders up to 65tm capacity, is not to use a lorry loader with a rated capacity greater than 65tm.
* Typically defined as a lorry loader crane with a rated capacity of less than 1000kg or a maximum net lifting moment of less than 40,000Nm.
