NOTES

Basic slinging is included within this syllabus but an additional day of detailed slinging training is recommended if operators are to sling from other equipment types.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

To teach the operatives of Pedestrian Operated floor cranes the job safety knowledge and practical skills necessary for the safe operation of the crane, and the inspection, selection and safe use of the slings and lifting tackle to be used to handle loads.

COURSE CONTENTS (THEORY)

  • The need to train & statutory requirement (HASAWA 1974, LOLER & PUWER 1998 Regulations)
  • Safety rules for pedestrian operated floor cranes
  • Types of sling (Chain, Steel Wire Rope, Fibre)
  • Terminal Lifting Tackle (Hooks, Eyebolts, Shackles)
  • Selection & Inspection of Slings & Lifting Tackle
  • Duties of Slinger (Theory Test)

  • Pre-use check of the floor crane
  • Control Familiarisation
  • Driving & maneouvring the floor crane
  • Selection and inspection of slings and lifting tackle
  • Various methods of slinging / lifting loads
  • Working with hand signals
  • Practical test
