In the run up to Christmas, many companies find themselves taking on new staff to help during the busy period.
If your company is one of those who take on new staff, you must ensure that any new staff have received the correct training on any equipment that they may use. This ensures that any new employees are competent on equipment they will use. Furthermore it means that you as an employer are abiding PUWER.
The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) states that employers must:
‘ensure that all persons who use work equipment have received adequate training for the purposes of health and safety, including training in the methods which may be adopted when using work equipment, and risks which such use may entail and the precautions to be taken.’
(PUWER Regulation 9)
