NOTES

ALMI allow a maximum of 4 delegates per course. ITSSAR 1:1 novice courses may be reduced to 7.5 hours.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

To train personnel in the practical skills and job safety knowledge necessary for the operation of lorry-mounted cranes to the accredited standards of ITSSAR and the ABA Workplace Transport 2012.

  • The need to train & statutory requirements
  • Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 - Section 2, 7 & 8.
  • LOLER (The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998).
  • PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998)
  • MHSWR (The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (1999).
  • The Road Traffic Act 1988.
  • HSG136 (Workplace Transport Safety)
  • Introduction to BS7121 (Code of practise for the safe use of cranes)
  • Components of Lorry Loader and Attachment Types - Where applicable.
  • Control Symbols
  • Rated Capacities of Lorry Loader
  • Lorry Loader Operating Safety Rules for Sitting on the Lorry Loader.
  • Safe use of Accessories and rating / derating factors.
  • Hand signals.
  • General safety rules
  • Multi choice theoretical tests

  • Introduction to the machine
  • Pre-operational checks
  • Sighting the vehicle
  • Engaging / disengaging power take off
  • Deploying and stowing stabilisers
  • Lorry Loader control familiarisation
  • Folding and unfolding Lorry Loader
  • Spotting the attachment
  • Lifting, maneouvering and landing A loads
  • Practical slinging precedures - Where applicable
  • Working to a signalers
  • Fitting and removing attachments - Where applicable
  • Tipping procedures (Clam shell bucket only)
  • Preparing the vehicle for travelling
  • Practical skill tests

COURSE DOCUMENTATION

Training records and Progressive Assessment report forwarded to employer. TOP Scheme registration completed on behalf of customer.
